The integration of a public childcare facility into a 93 unit social housing development located in Vancouver’s tony False Creek North neighbourhhood created an opportunity to do something very special. Distinctions between the two functions are blurred to ensure a unified project while the needs of each user group are accomodated. Quayside has become a model for this form of integrated development. Exterior play areas in the childcare centre include play spaces and equipment for infants, toddlers, and preschool children. All design elements play off the historical themes of the area including Sweeny Cooperage.
