Crossroads

The opening of the Canada Line marks the completion of Vancouver’s Cambie corridor urban renewal project. As the centre piece of the northern section of this work, the Crossroads project provides direct transit connections and a rich public realm on three fronting streets. The design challenge for this fully integrated mixed use development comprised of two large format retailers, a broad range of smaller retailers, restaurants, commercial tower, residential tower, and street facing townhouses has been to provide a unifying and legible landscape ground plane at multiple levels. The landscape contribution to attaining LEED Silver Certification has been the introduction of cisterns for storm water collection and irrigation, use of a high efficiency irrigation system, the inclusion of green walls and both intensive and extensive green roofs, and the use of recycled materials such as crushed glass pavers and reclaimed basalt.
